The Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka and the Secondary Education Modernization Project (SEMP) collaboratively launched the e-village project in 2007 to enhance the living conditions of rural communities using information and communication technology. Our village, Mahalakotuwa was selected as one of the five pilot projects of the project.

Mahalakotuwa eVillage, which is the first and the leading e-village of the Central Province, was able to create our own identity in the ICT field within three years of short time.

We got an opportunity to do a presentation at the opening ceremony of the “Mahinda Rajapaksa Information & Communication Technology Library” at Getambe, Peradeniya on March 19, 2010. The Chief Guest was H.E. the President Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa.

We did our presentation while connecting live with Mahalakotuwa e-village electronically. H.E. the President communicated live using Skype with our students who were in Mahalakotuwa
